    Shiso actually isn't basil, but it is distantly related. It's called Perilla or beefsteak plant. It is an herb used in japanese and korean cookery. It comes in green and red and is mostly as a garnish or used in making umeboshi (japanese pickled plums, the red shiso lends its color to the plums). It is quite refresing, a cross between thai basil (noted for its anise flavour) and mint. Yummy.
